Deadened update and excerpt

Yay! I have finished writing Deadened, book 2 in the Avery Tywella Series. We went out of town this weekend and on the long car drive (while my hubby drove) I did the first edit on the book. Next, it’s off to the beta readers while I create the cover and start the second edit. So I thought since we’re getting closer to the release I would add a teaser for you. I realistically believe this book will be live by the first of Feb. which is a full month earlier than I had originally planned. Sometimes the muse is with me and when that happens the words come as fast as my fingers will type. That was the case with this book. I hope y’all enjoy this preview.

I was flying above the city. For the briefest of moments I was actually scared to be so far above the ground. But then I realized this was the way it was supposed to be. I relished the feel of the wind in my face and the feeling of freedom being in the open air brought me. Of course, my logical brain had to know how it was that I was able to fly without some metal contraption surrounding me. I looked over my right shoulder and there, stretching out at least ten feet from me, was a beautiful ivory wing beating in rhythm. I looked over my left shoulder and saw the matching wing. Then I saw to my left Jared flying with me. He saw me look at him and smiled.
“How do you like your first flight, Caru?”
“It’s amazing. How are we doing this?”
“We were made to do this. You’re not enjoying yourself?”
“I am. It’s just unreal.”
“I understand. Would you like to land?”
I nodded. It was weird. With us flying through the air we should have had to shout in order to be heard over the wind but I didn’t hear the wind at all. It was more like we were taking a casual stroll instead of flying through the air.

We landed on the roof of a local skyscraper and he pulled me to him and kissed me. He tasted like ambrosia and something else I couldn’t quite identify but was uniquely his. After a few minutes he released me from his kiss but kept his arms around me.
“I love flying with you at my side. It’s like the world has finally righted itself after centuries of wrongness.”
“I’m still amazed I actually flew. I guess you really can do anything in your dreams.”
“This is only a dream if you want it to be. It could be our reality forever. All you have to do is come back to me.”
“Uh, I’m pretty sure I don’t have a twenty foot wingspan in real life.”
That reminded me. I looked behind me and the wings were gone. Then I realized they weren’t actually gone as I can still see them but it looked like I was seeing them through a vail. I reached for one and my hand slipped through the vail and touched my wing. That was weird. I looked at Jared and could just make out his wings behind him. They were also mostly hidden. Is that the way they always are? No, surely I would have noticed in the many times we were together months ago.
“They don’t stay on this plane, Caru. Only when we need them.”

But I’m part Demon. Why would I have wings? Duh, it’s a dream. I haven’t seen or heard from Jared in months. Obviously my subconscious has created this out of the knowledge that I would likely be seeing him again tonight. I smiled at him. As long as I’m dreaming, I’m going to play this for all I’ve got.

I leaned forward and kissed him again. Gods, the taste of him was enough to drive me mad. He moved his hand to the nape of my neck and he used his hold to tilt my head further so he could deepen the kiss. I rubbed my hands down his back to just above his ass and pulled him even closer to me. I could feel his erection pushed against my stomach and I just wanted him closer.

He slid his hand down to my thigh, pulled my leg up and I wrapped it around him. He broke off the kiss and moved to my neck, alternating between placing small kisses and sucking. Slowly he moved to my ear and nibbled on the lobe.
“Gods how I want you, Caru. I want to…”
There was an insistent ringing sound and I looked around for the source. Finally it stopped and he licked his way from my collarbone to earlobe.
“I want to do that to your…”
I could feel a vibration in my nether region and I swear I about came right then but the ringing was back. What the Hell is that?

I came awake with a start and realized my phone was still in my pocket vibrating as it rang.
